The Windows app
BackupBell processes watcher names, selected folder paths, filename rules, Windows file names, modified dates, sizes, schedules and local health history on your PC. It uses file metadata and is designed not to open watched-file contents or modify watched files.
App settings and history are stored locally under your Windows account. BackupBell has no separate account, publisher-operated telemetry, advertising, subscription or cloud synchronisation.
Aggregate website measurement
To understand whether the public learning campaign reaches real users, the site counts daily visits, broad referral categories, Microsoft Store button clicks, feedback-form starts and completed submissions. These are first-party aggregate counters. BackupBell does not store IP addresses, full referrer URLs, browser fingerprints, advertising identifiers or individual browsing histories in its analytics database.
A temporary session marker in your browser prevents repeated page loads in the same session from inflating the visit count. It is not used to recognise you later or across devices. Aggregate totals may be kept as non-identifying product-research records.
Structured website feedback
If you submit the optional form, we receive the answers shown on that form, a private case reference, the submission time, the broad campaign source associated with that browser session and any email address you voluntarily provide. We do not ask for folder paths, filenames, file contents, screenshots, passwords or device identifiers.
Answers are used to evaluate product usefulness, identify problems and decide future development. Raw form submissions and optional non-contributor email addresses are deleted within 90 days after the 90-day campaign closes. De-identified aggregate counts may be kept as product-research records. If you join the Founding Contributor programme, we retain only the email, eligibility reference, consent time and fulfilment status for up to 24 months after the campaign closes.
Support email
If you email hello@backupbell.com, the publisher receives your address and whatever you include. Do not send confidential files, private folder listings, passwords or payment details. Support conversations and attachments are deleted within 90 days after the issue closes unless you request earlier deletion or a legal duty requires longer retention.
Microsoft services
Microsoft Store and Windows may process acquisition, update, platform analytics, reputation and review information under Microsoft’s terms. These services are separate from BackupBell’s publisher-operated feedback form. A Microsoft Store review is public; the BackupBell feedback form is not.
Why we process optional feedback
The publisher relies on legitimate interests to evaluate whether BackupBell is useful, identify product and safety problems, operate the limited contributor programme, prevent abuse and answer support requests. The form is optional, asks for a separate acknowledgement before submission and is designed to avoid sensitive or watched-folder information. You can object, withdraw from the contributor programme or request deletion using your private case reference.
Your choices and rights
You can use BackupBell without sending feedback. Email is optional unless you request a reply or contributor reward. You may ask to access, correct or delete your feedback, or object to its processing, by emailing hello@backupbell.com with your private case reference. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
Processors, hosting and international processing
BackupBell’s website, aggregate campaign counters and structured feedback database are hosted through ChatGPT Sites. OpenAI processes submitted website data on the publisher’s behalf to host, maintain and support the site. The form and counters use the site’s associated D1 database. ChatGPT Sites does not currently offer data residency, so BackupBell does not promise that website feedback stays in a particular country. OpenAI and its listed sub-processors may provide hosting, infrastructure, content-safety and support services under the ChatGPT Sites Data Processing Addendum and sub-processor list.
Support email is delivered and stored through Namecheap Private Email. Namecheap provides mailbox filtering through Jellyfish spam protection and states that limited portions of email may be checked with OpenAI Moderation for spam, phishing or harmful activity. Do not email sensitive files, private listings, passwords or payment information. Namecheap describes its processing and international transfers in its privacy policy and data-processing addendum.
BackupBell uses only the first-party aggregate measurement described above. It does not add advertising pixels, cross-site marketing trackers or marketing cookies. Hosting providers may keep operational and security logs under their own terms.
Changes
If BackupBell adds telemetry, content inspection, accounts, cloud services or materially different feedback processing, this notice will be updated before those changes are distributed.
